Fred is a Faculty Member of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University (ODU), Norfolk VA. He is an alumnus of Northeastern University, Boston, MA, and holds BS, MS and Ph.D. Degrees in Engineering Science with major in Mechanical Engineering, and minor in Industrial Engineering.
His research interests and expertise include conventional and alternative energy conversion and power generation, subsurface sensing and imaging, and nondestructive testing and evaluation of materials. He has worked with scientists at NASA’s John Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH, in the development of Solar Dynamic Power for the international space station. He is currently working in cooperation with scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences in research areas of Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation of engineering materials for applications in the aerospace, automotive, and power generation industries.
He has trained aeronautical, mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering students for more than 20 years in institutions of higher learning including Northeastern University, Boston, MA, Wentworth Institute of Technology Boston, MA, and Daniel Webster College, Nashua, NH. He has instructed students in a variety of technical and scientific fields including thermodynamics, solid and fluid mechanics, flight mechanics, aerodynamics, stress analysis, instrumentation, alternative energy, fuel cells, nuclear power, and other areas of applied physics and mathematics. He has written several manuals for laboratory training, and published and presented several technical papers in scientific and engineering journals and conferences.
He has served in administrative positions such as, Chair of the Engineering, Mathematics and Science Divisions at Daniel Webster College, Nashua, NH., Chair of the Division of Experimentation and Laboratory Studies of the ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education), and Chair of Review Panels for the National Science Foundation (NSF). He is a Company Representative for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
He is currently director and faculty-in-residence at the New College Institute, in Martinsville, VA in charge of implementing ODU’s newest BSET program in Motorsports offered through the Department of Engineering Technology.
