Before arriving at ODU, he taught electrical engineering courses at Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, Maine, with a focus on modern shipboard power systems and land-based electric power generation.  While serving at the Academy he was Director, Center for Technology Forecasting, and Director, Center for Maritime-Aerospace Liaison and Technology Development.  Mr. Walk taught also at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine, in the Electrical Engineering Technology department, where he initiated development of laboratory upgrades leading to today’s multimillion dollar University of Maine Advanced Manufacturing Center.

In over 10 years service to industry, Mr. Walk’s experience included positions as design engineer, research engineer, project manager, product manager, marketing manager, and engineering manager, at companies including small manufacturers and large electric utilities, all associated with electric power equipment, including advanced test, monitoring, and measurement systems.  He developed special technical expertise in high voltage, high current, and high magnetic field phenomena, earning several US and international patents and one major corporate award for outstanding research.

His current research and development activities include quantitative technology forecasting, with applications in new product development, strategic planning, and policy making in industry and government.  He is owner and founder of Technology Intelligence, a management consulting company in Norfolk, Virginia, specializing in strategic technology management.  Mr. Walk is pursuing also research in energy management technologies and high voltage impulse effects in composite materials.

A long time member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, he has contributed articles to regional newsletters and served on several standards committees.  His funded research projects have included maritime applications of fuel cells, technology forecasting, and energy management.  He has authored over fifty technical papers, articles, and presentations.
