IIWE 2002: another success!

Group work
IIWE 2002 definitely broke new ground. EPF Ecole d’Ingénieurs,
working alone in the organization of IIWE’s second edition,
had the objective of presenting more engineering cultures than
in IIWE 2001, as well as having students and staff coming from
a larger number of countries. We wanted to become more international,
in every way, shape and form. We succeeded .
Look at the figures: we jumped from the IIWE 2001 figures of:
- 30 student participants from 16 countries
- 13 staff participants from 3 countries
- and presenting 4 engineering cultures
to the IIWE 2002 figures of:
- 83 student participants from 25 countries click here for participants
- 57 staff participants from 21 countries click here for staff
- 5 IIWE alumni participants from 5 countries click here for
alumni
- and presenting 11 engineering cultures click here for program
2002 objective reached:
So the IIWE reached its 2002 objective. It became more international:
the participants came from an increasing number of countries and
a larger selection of engineering cultures was presented in the
sessions.
But growth seldom occurs without “growing pains”,
and this was the case at IIWE. Running the IIWE program for 43
people is very different from doing the same for 145… especially
when it is done on a very small budget. With few exceptions, the
student/staff evaluations showed great solidarity and understanding
of these difficulties and we are proud and encouraged that they
judged IIWE 2002 to be a resounding success. Click here for IBM
summary of evaluations.
THANK YOU!
We wish to thank all who attended: their contributions made this
year’s event an enriching experience full of exchanges,
discoveries, interesting ideas and new friendships.
And we specifically wish to thank our sponsors for helping to
make this happen: The French National Education Ministry/French
University Paris XI and the Club 92 for their generous moral and
financial support. Thanks to this sponsorship, the IIWE was able
to offer student participants scholarships to cover tuition and
registration fees, a free full day bus tour of Paris and breakfast.
This sponsorship also enabled us to offer staff a small honorarium
for their participation in the event.
In addition, we are especially grateful to IBM, for not only
accompanying us throughout the year in planning this event, but
also for sending us speakers and an invitation to the entire IIWE
2002 to spend a day at the IBM La Defense site.
Special thanks also go to Renault and Schlumberger that were
again very supportive of the IIWE, sending us speakers and offering
participants industrial visits.
