IIWE 2005
July 1st– July 22nd, 2005

The IIWE 2005 « Sustaining Women Engineers Internationally » concentrated on:

Ø      giving women students the support they need to continue their engineering studies and later enter a technical career

 

Ø      introducing students to sustainable development issues, using water and the IIWE’s Nile Countries Hydro management Project as a focus

 

We are delighted to report that the evaluations show general agreement that the IIWE 2005 was a great success… and that as the years pass our increasing professionalism (thanks to suggestions in the evaluations) is paying off.  Deep thanks go to all participants and faculty members not only for joining us, but also for fully participating in the sessions. 

 

THE NUMBERS:

This year the IIWE welcomed 30 students from 19 countries. 

Australia, Austria, Cameroon, China, Columbia, Denmark, France, Ghana, India, Kenya, Latvia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, United States, Vietnam

 

 There were 19 faculty members from 16 countries + approximately 45 professionals met during the industrial visits

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, United Kingdom, United States

 

Two alumni members (IIWE 2002 and IIWE 2004) from 2 countries attended:

South Africa, Israel

 

There were 10 interns participated from 5 countries:

France, Germany, Iran, Latvia, United States

 

THE PROGRAMME:

Industrial visits to IBM France, Schlumberger

Academic visits to the University of Paris XI

 

 

 

New features in the 2005 program:

Visit to EADS, our new partner

Lectures on Sustainable Development, International Standards and Project Management

Faculty and student teams for the Area Presentations

Lodging on the Paris XI campus

 

Finally, the IIWE wishes to particularly express our gratitude to the ten interns who made this session possible.  Quite literally, without them, the IIWE could not have taken place.
