Financial Aid

The department provides financial assistance to students who have demonstrated superior academic performance. The department supports a majority of the full-time graduate students through a combination of fellowships and teaching and research assistantships. The stipends for assistantships range from $8,000 to $10,000 per year, depending on the student's status in the department. Assistantship recipients are expected to devote about twenty hours to teaching and/or research activities per week. Masters students receiving assistantships pay tuition at the same rate as Virginia residents. The tuition of Doctoral research or teaching assistants is waived.
