Transportation Research Program

Welcome to the Transportation Program in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Old Dominion University. The transportation system impacts the daily life of every person.  A well-functioning transportation helps ensure the economic vitality of a region by allowing the safe and efficient movement of goods and people.  Unfortunately, traffic congestion, safety concerns, and environmental issues have all become major issues in many urban areas.

The Hampton Roads area is ideally suited to serve as the home to a program in transportation, with a variety of transportation modes converging within a congested, urban environment.  Freight movement, congestion, safety, land use, and emergency management are all important, relevant topics in the region.

Old Dominion University is actively involved with addressing many of these issues, and this web site provides details on our transportation education and research programs.
